RENOVATIONS: WOODLAND CIRCLE IN WOODLAND HILLS

• Architectural Design:  David Turner
•Landscape Architect:  Bill Heimer
•New life was breathed into this stately home through extensive restoration of the home and gardens. The colonial architecture of this elegant home is boldly stated in its front porch with 18’ tall columns, an understated but beautiful front door, tall windows, and a brick floor elevated establish a familiar harmony we recognized immediately as classical architecture. All three floors were renovated, every surface was updated, all the mechanical systems were replaced, and modern conveniences were added like home audio and a central vacuum. The back of the house is dominated by a 12 window gallerie that links the kitchen with the den and serves as a beautiful viewing corridor from the second floor to the one acre back yard. The flow of this gallerie was disrupted previously by a stair case to the lower porch and a confusing match of materials. The staircase was removed to create a rhythmic flow of windows and space, and the materials were matched to the rooms they touched to help it visually connect. A few pleasant surprises were uncovered during the restoration; two fireplaces, black walnut floors in the front rooms, and lots of brick paths and patios in the landscape. A classical home brought up to date, blending the emotional comforts of the past with the creature comforts of today.
